Lower Back Pain Causes

Lower back pain may originate from overuse, injury, or a muscle strain. Sources of pain may occur when walking, bending, and sitting. Other symptoms include numbness, tingling, and atrophy. Atrophy refers to the wearing away, or degeneration, of muscle mass which can lead to muscle weakness.

Muscle strains occur when the low back muscles become overstretched and tight as a result of overuse, twisting and/or bending the wrong way, and trauma.
Occupations that require heavy lifting, standing, and twisting motion, increased sitting, or working with tools that vibrate also predispose a person to have low back pain as a result of degenerative changes.
